Flat Stanley's South Dakota Adventures

• Friday, April 7, 2006, overnight rains caused flash flooding of the Skunk and Big Sioux Rivers in the Sioux Falls area. Stanley became stranded in the Spencer Park playground by the rising water of the Big Sioux River as it covered the park.

• Stanley got a ride on the moose that wandered around Minnehaha county.

• Stanley watched the (near) demolition of the old Zip Feed Mill in Sioux Falls -- otherwise known as "The Leaning Tower of Sioux Falls." Read the full story.

• Stanley visited The Falls of the Big Sioux River. Sioux Falls was named after the Falls. The Falls are part of the Big Sioux River that runs along the eastern border of South Dakota.

• Stanley wanted to see where Jesse James jumped over Devil's Gulch at Garretson. Legend says Jesse James jumped from ledge to ledge while on the run after committing a bank robbery.

• Stanley was amazed by the Corn Palace. The Corn Palace is in Mitchell, South Dakota.

• Stanley visited the Capitol building in Pierre.

• Mrs. Daugaard and Stanley had fun taking their picture at Wall Drug. Wall Drug is in Wall, SD.

• Principal Sittig and Mrs. Daugaard took Stanley for a motorcycle ride in Sturgis. The Sturgis Motorcyle Rally is held every August.

• Stanley was IMPRESSED by Mount Rushmore. Mt. Rushmore was built by Gutzon Borglum.

• Stanley hiked up to the top of Crazy Horse Monument. Crazy Horse Monument was the dream of Korczak Ziolkowski. It is located near Custer, South Dakota.

• Stanley's last stop was Wind Cave National Park. Wind Cave is in Hot Springs, South Dakota.
